New Season preparations

New season ahead!

British strawberries from Berries Direct.

Oh boy, have we got a spring in our step!

Our favourite springtime signs are here (even if there’s still a chance of some frost on the ground!) signalling there’s plenty to look forward to – March and April always feel like some of the most optimistic months – lighter mornings, lighter evenings, blossoms, buds and shoots emerge, daffodils dance, lambs leap and clocks jump forward. Well, hello there Spring!

And that’s before we’ve started picking!

On our farms the team have been hard at work paving the way for the new season glasshouse and tunnel crops.

We’ve been busy tucking, weeding and de-leafing our glasshouse plants, making sure they're enjoying prime growing conditions to start picking in April – those first delicious strawberries are well on their way!

Following the unusual storms earlier in the year our Martham glasshouses sustained some damage and needed additional repairs to ensure the crop remained safe and in tip-top condition ready for the strawberry season ahead.

The all-important tasks have been underway in the tunnels too; prepping the plants, the growing bags and ensuring the tunnel structures are set for planting out of the crop which we pick in June; we’re already looking forward to a fair crop.

It’s early days for these plants and we’re excited to bring you more updates later on this season and it won’t be long before they’re producing bright, high-quality berries.

All reasons to celebrate and look forward to the coming season!
