During February we are caring for the glasshouse crop with husbandry tasks and getting the campsite ready for staff returning.

Accommodation is available at our farm sites should our seasonal workers wish to use it.  This month we are doing a deep clean of our caravans, ready for our new staff to arrive.  We make sure that everything is set up ready to go so that they can move in quickly and comfortably when they arrive. All the relevant checks are done on the caravans and we make sure our health and safety team are happy with the condition of our accommodation before our staff arrive.

Our crop is really coming on, ready for the Spring crop start date.  Before then we have a lot of preparation of the fruit. As well as the plants themselves there is a lot of ‘husbandry’ tasks around this, such as washing and cleaning the tapes that will support the fruit once the berries start to grow, we put up fly traps to help control any pests in the houses.

On our plants that were ‘overwintered’ we now cut off the leaf to allow for new plant growth.  We have a general tidy up of the glasshouses with sweeping, setting up plant growing systems, checking our irrigation system and preparing plants to grow in the best way possible.

By the end of February we start to welcome our workers to the site.  Before they start work they will be given an induction and training.
